Access is an electronic relational database that enables the user to collect, manage, and analyze an almost unlimited amount of data. Data is collected in tables; it can then be analyzed through the use of queries and printed in reports or exported to other applications. Access make sense of your mountains of data, saving you time. Classes are held at your office and geared to your individual needs. All classes are hands-on and limited to three or fewer participants to assure quality.
I offer four classes in Access. Click on course name for more information:
Access Basic
Queries
Database design and tables
Forms and Reports
Access Basic
In this class, you will be introduced to Microsoft Access, learn what it is all about and how it could be used to make your job easier. As with most of my classes, it will offer a mix of lecture and actual practice. Class time: approximately 3 hours. You will:
Understand the concept of a relational, electronic database
Gain knowledge of Access objects:Tables, Queries, Forms, Reports, Macros
Plan databases to get the best efficiency
Learn about relationships
Learn how to write a simple query
Design an input form instantly
Use your data to create mailing labels
Design a printable report instantly
Learn how to export data to Excel for quick analysis
Apply what you have learned to your own needs
Access Queries
In this class, you will work more with the Access database, creating more complex queries. As with most of my classes it will offer a mix of lecture and actual practice. Class time: approximately 3 hours. You will learn how to:
Add totals and other calculations to queries
Use parameters in a query
Create queries of queries to solve more complex issues
Use look-up fields to make data entry easier
Transfer data to Word in a mail merge
Write simple macros
Design a "switchboard" and other forms
Apply what you have learned to your own needs
Access Database Design and Tables
Tables are the heart of Access. Learn how to design your database right the first time by understanding the creation and maintenance of tables. As with most of my classes, this class will offer a mix of lecture and actual practice. Class time: approximately 2 hours. You will learn:
How to create tables that make the most efficient use of your database
The various types of fields and what types to use
How to create a field that automatically enters data for you
How to let Access “build” function fields the easy way
The power of good relationships
Create tables by importing data from Excel and other data sources
How to instantly create a form to make data entry easier
Access Forms and Reports
Forms can make input easy, and reports can make output attractive and easy to understand. In this class, you’ll learn how to design both. As with most of my classes, it will offer a mix of lecture and actual practice. Class time: approximately 3 hours. You will learn how to:
Create forms to ease data input
Design a “switchboard” to get where you want to go fast
Create and print mailing labels quickly
Create reports to present data in the best format
